Supported in providing three case studies illustrating the research management functions at three institutions in Africa through:

• Describing the current state of the research management in each of the three institutions
• Describing the role (if any) the institutional leadership played in developing the service, and its current profile with senior management
• Describing the structure and position of the function
• Describing the resources available for research management, where these come from within the institution budget
• Describing the recent history of the function, including major changes for at least the past 10 years, what motivated the changes and the barriers faced, and how these were overcome
• Describing the extent to which research management services are known and utilized
• Describing the cadre of research management staff, and professional development opportunities available.
